So after surgery they brought him back into his room, where I was already waiting for him. They started going over what they had to do and ended up putting in two chest tubes and relieving 2 1/2 L of old blood that was stuck between his chest cavity and lungs. Another half liter drained out to 3 L all together. But of course he was in great spirits, Because he never likes to show any sort of fear or concern. The surgeon said he did well with minimal invasion but of course he would probably be sore because he still had the broken ribs in which they had to go through.

Later that night he was sitting up standing up but he had to hold onto a cart, to make sure that he didn’t  fall over. I stayed the night with him but I just couldn’t get any sleep. All the machines, the nurses in and out, the time to myself to just sit there and think about what had actually happened. I missed my kids, I missed the normalcy of our lives. I’m so thankful that the surgeon was able to perform the surgery on that in such short notice. I can’t even fathom the thought of what might’ve happened had Matt not gotten that second, really third, opinion.

Matt ended up recovering extremely quick he was discharged on Sunday he came home and of course he was back at it, working and planning his big return to the deer. The only thing he had on his mind was hunting so he kept saying he was going to heal so he could at least get some bow season in.

My mom was such a huge help, I really don’t know what I would have done without her here. She did however have to leave a little bit early because of her doctors appointments. She ended up staying a week which I couldn’t have asked more of her. Fast forward to Matt’s two week postop check up, the doctor Removed the one stitch that was still in because the others fell out, and viewed his x-ray that he had just gotten done about an hour prior. He said he looks great his lung capacity was looking phenomenal. He said that Matt was looking better and healing faster than average. Which of course went straight to Matt’s head, he said that’s because “I’m the one percent.”. It also gave him more motivation to heal so that he could get back into hunting. The Dr. pretty much gave him a slow green light. Which I’m not really mad at because I just want him better. So now that that nightmare is hopefully behind us, Moving forward to better and brighter days is all I can really ask for.

We have another doctors appointment soon, which will get another x-ray done before hand. Praying all goes well, Matt’s breathing has been so much better, he’s been out hunting, he’s even gotten a buck and was able to move it to the cart by himself. If that doesn’t tell you that the man is healed I don’t know what that is. So here’s to happiness, health, family and blessed days ahead.

Go ahead, tell me your husband is resilient without telling me your husband is resilient!
